What

Asks the ledger for a price quote before you send a cross-currency payment: which routes exist and how much they would cost you.

Why you'd use it

You would not exchange money without seeing the rate first. This is the free 'check the rate' step that makes cross-currency payments safe.

How

Enter the Source Account (usually yours) and the Destination Account.
Enter what the destination should receive: Destination Currency, Destination Issuer (unless XRP), and Destination Amount.
Run it and read alternatives — each entry shows a route and the source amount it would cost you.
Use the best quote (plus a small buffer) as Max to Spend in Cross-Currency Payment.

Watch out

A quote is a snapshot, not a promise — liquidity can shift in the seconds before you send.
An empty alternatives list means no viable route exists right now; sending anyway would fail.
This is a free, read-only query — quote as often as you like.

For example

Before paying a supplier 250 EUR tokens, you run a quote and see two routes: one costing 102 XRP and one costing 99 XRP. You set your payment cap at 101 XRP and send along the cheaper path.
