High-throughput off-ledger micropayment channels.

A payment channel lets you make thousands of tiny XRP payments to one recipient without putting each one on the ledger. You lock XRP in a channel once, then send signed 'claims' — IOU notes — off-ledger as fast as you can generate signatures. The recipient redeems the total on-ledger whenever they like.

It is a bar tab backed by a deposit. You hand the bartender a prepaid card (the channel), then order drinks all night with quick signatures instead of paying per round. At closing time the bartender charges the card once for the total — and the deposit guarantees the tab is good.
